Remove Anomalies and increase allocation under SDRF- MP Vikram Sahney
Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab have demanded that anomalies in the norms of assistance under State Disaster Response Fund by the center like rupees 6800 per acre for compensation and rupees 6500 for repair of houses etc. should be removed and compensation norms should be made realistic for the recent floods in Punjab.
Dr. Sahney said that in addition to the PM’s special grant of rupees 1600 Crores current allocation under SDRF for 2025-26 should be increased to rupees 10,000 crore as a special package against rupees 882 crore rupees received to cover compensation for crops, embankments of various rivers and construction of Bundhs and repair of canal breaches, providing Desilting machines including JCBs, Agri inputs such as fertilizers, seeds to the flood affected farmers for sowing wheat in Rabi season which is very crucial for the food security of the country.
Dr. Sahney elaborated that current compensation for 75% or more crop damage is provided at only rupees 6800 vs 20,000 rupees per acre being given by Punjab. However, farmers are demanding minimum 50,000 rupees per acre for damage to paddy and other crops.
Similarly for the partially damaged houses, provision is only for 6500 rupees only, which is far from reality, and it should be minimum 60,000 rupees per house. While for Livestock compensation current guidelines provide only 37500 rupees for Buffalo and it is a known fact that the current rate is over rupees 1 lac per buffalo. There is no provision in SDRF for any damage to Agri Infrastructure like Tubewells and Reboring.
